The Olympic Games in Paris began this weekend with an opening ceremony which has caused quite a stir; I imagine that was the intention. I didn’t watch it, but the reports I have read and the clips I have seen do not surprise me. Secular France parading on the world stage a spectacle replete with satanic symbolism, undisguised mockery of Christianity and an apparent celebration of all things perverse and debauched.
Why am I not surprised? This is what you get when you reject God. There is no such thing as spiritually-neutral harmless secularism or an inclusive ‘anything goes’ utopia. That is a lie of the devil. It is the oldest trick in the book. In the garden of Eden, Adam and Eve allowed themselves to believe the devil’s lies: that they could reject God’s way, do what ‘felt good’, ‘be their own person’, ‘listen to their heart’, make their own way, ‘follow their desires’, eat the forbidden fruit and suffer no consequences. These are the lies the devil peddles so successfully in our western society, which result in bondage to his demonic agenda and destructive consequences. It is a road which leads to sin, misery, hopelessness and ultimately death.
The authorities who sanctioned the Olympic ceremony no doubt thought they were doing something clever and ‘edgy’. Or perhaps their intention was to embrace a satanic agenda and stick two fingers up at God. Either way, it demonstrates quite spectacularly the choice the West faces: embrace secularism, reject God and watch the rapid destruction of your civilisation, or return to your Christian heritage, embrace God’s law, give your people back their identity and teach your children Christian values once again. Then you will flourish and you may once again experience God’s blessing and favour.
God is watching, and he knows our every thought and every motive. It is time to turn to him and follow his ways of righteousness and truth.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance. From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind; from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth - he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. Psalm 33: 12-15
